Our research focuses on the gut bacterium Akkermansia muciniphila, a fascinating member of the human microbiota.

Akkermansia is a common inhabitant of the human intestinal microbiome. It colonizes the mucus layer, where it forages on host glycans and contributes to the health of its host. We are using genetic techniques to investigate factors that influence colonization by diverse Akkermansia strains and their impact on host health.
